How to replace a Central Air Monitor probe

If a HAVEN Central Air Monitor is failing to produce data and has been troubleshooted by the homeowner or professional who installed it with a TZOA team member, it is probably eligible for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). In this case, a new device will be shipped to the customer.

The following instructions explain what to do after the RMA has been approved, the user has received the replacement Central Air Monitor and is ready to replace it in the duct.

1. Determine what type of power your Central Air Monitor is using.

a. Dedicated 24V AC transformer

  1. Unplug the transformer from the wall.

  2. Remove the HAVEN probe from the mounting plate in the duct.

  3. Use a 2mm slotted screwdriver to loosen the 2 wire terminals on the bottom side of the probe.

  4. Remove the wire.

  5. Insert the wires into the replacement probe and tighten them with the 2mm slotted screwdriver.

  6. Plug the transformer back into the wall.

  7. When the probe’s LED lights up blue, it’s ready to be connected to the customer’s account. For this step you’ll need the HAVEN IAQ app.

b. Furnace board OR dedicated 24V AC HVAC transformer

  1. Turn off the air handler’s power. This can be achieved in a few different ways. Either a switch on the actual air handler, a switch on the wall that may look like a light switch, or turning off the dedicated HVAC switch in the breaker box.

  6. Turn the power to the air handler back on.

  7. When the probe’s LED lights up blue, it’s ready to be connected to the customer’s account. For this step you’ll need the HAVEN IAQ app.

2. Determine whether the air monitor positioning needs changing

If the problem with your original HAVEN Central Air Monitor was related to insufficient airflow signal, it’s likely that you will have to adjust the angle of the mounting plate. This may involve removing the mounting plate from the duct, covering up the hole with HVAC foil tape and drilling a new hole. If you try to use the existing hole, it will be very difficult to adjust the angle slightly and drill new screw holes so closely to the old ones.

  1. Follow the steps in the HAVEN IAQ app to associate the new device to the homeowner’s account.

  2. When you get to the Position Validation step, remove the screws from the mounting plate and insert the probe.

  3. You can try using the same hole or simply drill a new one with the appropriately sized hole saw. Test the angles as the app instructions indicate.

  4. Secure the mounting plate in the position with the strongest airflow signal detected.

    1. If a 5-10 degree change is needed and you are using the old hole, it may be tricky to secure the screws so closely to the old. In this case, it will be best to remove the mounting plate and start from scratch.

    2. Use a hole saw and make a new hole.

    3. Repeat the Position Validation steps to find the strongest airflow signal.

    4. Secure mounting plate with the self-drilling screws.
